How can you be a better doula? If you’re a doula, it’s a question worth pondering for sure!

If you know me at all, you’ll know I think the world of doulas. They play such an important role in supporting expectant mothers to have a positive and empowering birth experience. We know this because the data tells us.

…if a birthing person has continuous labor support
(that is, someone who never leaves their side),
both mothers and babies are statistically more likely to have better outcomes!

And yet, we know that the support of a doula extends way beyond simply being present on the day of the birth. As well as childbirth education, doulas also provide emotional, mental, and psychological well-being support.

In some cases, it’s this emotional support that can be the thing that makes the difference between a positive and a negative birth experience.

This is where training in Fearless Birthing can help you to be a better doula. If you’ve read by book Fearless Birthing: Clear Your Fears for a Positive Birth you may already be familiar with my approach.

The fear clearance method at the core of Fearless Birthing – Head Trash Clearance – can significantly enhance a doula’s ability to provide holistic support to families as they navigate pregnancy and prepare for birth. It is also a DIY self-healing technique that can help you to manage your own mental health and wellbeing.

7 Ways You Can Be a Better Doula

I’ll explain more about the training but first I’d like to share with you seven compelling reasons why I think doulas should consider incorporating Fearless Birthing professional training into their skillset so that they can be a better doula. Being a doula is so much more than the job… for many it’s a calling. This is why it’s important for doulas to  thrive as humans. You are doing important sacred work and we all need you be the best doula you can, and I want to help you to be the best!

So here are my 7 ways that I believe my training can help you to be a better doula.

1. Provide a Deeper Level of Support

Doulas are already known for their compassionate care and emotional support. However, by adding Fearless Birthing to your toolkit, you can take your support to a much deeper level.

The fear clearance technique that is at the core of the Fearless Birthing methodology allows doulas to help their clients address and overcome anxieties and fears related to pregnancy, childbirth, and parenthood. It can be used to target very specific fears or anxieties that women might be feeling, either in the lead up to the birth or during birth itself. By guiding clients through laser-focussed fear release process, doulas can create a more relaxed and positive environment, promoting a smoother birthing experience.

Furthermore, because of the personal healing work that’s required as part of the Fearless Birthing training, trained doulas will be much better able to hold the space for their families, and advocate for them in difficult environments. Often your clients will share similar fears to the ones you may have had. Having intimate knowledge of conquering your fears and anxieties will help you to better connect to your families, and better support them.

2. Offer Additional Services to Your Clients

Training in Fearless Birthing opens up new possibilities for you to offer specialised fear release services to your clients. Expectant mothers often grapple with a range of fears, from the fear of pain to the fear of the unknown. Doulas with Fearless Birthing training can provide tailored sessions to address and alleviate these anxieties, helping clients feel more in control and confident throughout their pregnancy journey. These sessions could be an additional service option for families to access during the perinatal period.

Doulas can also create audio tracks for their clients which they can sell as part of their doula packages, or as standalone items. These are a great way for potential clients to discover you and create a connection with you. This can help you to win clients.

3. Increase Your Prices and Earn More

By adding the Fearless Birthing therapeutic technique to your repertoire, you can expand the services you offer which can help you to earn more as a doula.

This added expertise can justify higher pricing for your services as families seek having a higher level of emotional support available to them as part of their doula package. Clients are often willing to invest more in comprehensive support that addresses their emotional well-being and helps them navigate the emotional challenges of pregnancy and childbirth.

And, because personal healing work is an essential part of the training, doulas will have the opportunity to address their own fears and conflicts that might be getting in the way of them putting their prices up and owning their worth as a doula.

You’ll be in a position to start offering Fearless Birthing to your clients within 3 months of starting your training, which means you could make your return on your investment very quickly indeed.

4. Stand Out and Win More Clients

In a competitive doula market, standing out is essential. Fearless Birthing therapeutic training sets doulas apart from others in their community. It provides a strong signal to potential clients that they are committed to providing holistic support that addresses both the physical and emotional aspects of pregnancy and childbirth. This unique selling point can help doulas attract more clients and build a strong reputation in their community.

5. Accelerate Your Personal Growth and Be More Emotionally Resilient

Fearless Birthing training not only benefits clients but also offers personal growth and healing opportunities for doulas themselves.

An important and essential part of the training is the personal clearance work that needs to be undertaken at the start of the training. This is important because every doula needs to know what it’s like to have fears and then overcome them. But for the doula, it means that they get the opportunity to undertake powerful personal healing work to address their own fears and anxieties.

This helps doulas to be more emotionally resilient which in turn can help them to better cope with the emotional demands of birth work. In other words, you can become even more badass.

6. Self-Healing and Self-Care

Doulas often witness intense and emotional moments during childbirth, which can take a toll on their own emotional well-being. The technique that is at the core of Fearless Birthing is a potent self-healing tool that doulas can turn to whenever they need to so that they can manage their own emotions and release any accumulated stress or trauma. This self-healing and self-care aspect of the training can contribute to greater emotional resilience and overall well-being, and is a compelling reason to add this to your repertoire.

7. Better Support Your Family

The benefits of fear release technique of Fearless Birthing are not limited to just your clients. Once you’ve trained in Fearless Birthing you can support family members, including your kids. You can teach the DIY technique to your family members to help them cope with their own emotional health challenges. This can help you to cultivate a more emotionally balanced and harmonious family environment. A win for all parents!

Not only does it offer you the opportunity to stand out and charge more for your work, but the benefits are priceless when you consider how it can affect your personal emotional wellbeing. It could be the difference between burn-out and a thriving business.
