9 Steps to a Fearless Birth

The nine essential steps of birth prep, in the order that protects your mindset the whole way through.

Quick to read, and written for women preparing with fear in the picture. Not a birth plan template and not affirmations: it is the sequence, so that by the time birth arrives you feel ready rather than braced.

The guide comes by email from Fearless Birthing, our partner site, and that is the list you join: a short series of emails about preparing for birth follows it. You can leave it whenever you like.

Why the order matters

Most birth preparation hands you a pile of things to do and leaves you to work out where to start. That is how preparation turns into overwhelm, and how fear quietly gets to stay in charge.

One

Mindset first

You can read every birth book on the shelf and still walk into the room braced. The preparation piled information on top of a fear that was never dealt with, and information does not touch fear.

Two

Then the practical

The order in this guide puts the mindset work where it belongs, so that everything practical you do afterwards actually lands.

Three

Ready, not anxious

So that you spend the last months of pregnancy getting ready rather than getting anxious. Nine steps, in the order that keeps you steady.

Who wrote it, and where it comes from

The guide is by Alexia Leachman, author of Fearless Birthing and host of the Fear Free Childbirth podcast. These are the nine steps she identified after years of helping women clear their fears and go on to have positive births.

It is offered here through Fearless Birthing, our partner site, where the birth preparation classes and programmes live. Fearless Birthing was founded, like Fear Free Childbirth, by Alexia Leachman. Nothing on this page costs anything.

The guide

Birth does not have to be something you survive. It can be something you are ready for

Start with the nine steps. If you want more support once you have them, the birth prep classes at Fearless Birthing pick up where the guide leaves off.
